This 5000 square foot house sits on a ridge overlooking a valley east of San Francisco Bay, taking advantage of panoramic views. The house is intimate enough for two, yet able to accommodate entertaining while keeping a clear definition between public and private spaces. The building wraps around a 200-year-old live oak, which acts as a dominant organizational element for the house. The main 'L' shape of the building encloses the tree and creates a shaded, outdoor space onto which all the main spaces open. | |
