One of the client's major goals was to make the building feel more like a residence than an office building. The 14,000 square foot center houses Stanford University's student volunteer programs. Located on a pedestrian walk laid out in Frederick Law Olmsted's master campus plan, the Haas Center for Public Service is designed to be compatible with its neighborhood of residential-scaled buildings. The building incorporates passive solar strategies into its design, including sunshades, operable windows and landscape shading.
