Long Meadow Ranch / info >

Located in the foothills overlooking Napa Valley, Long Meadow Ranch is a sustainable ranch. Dedicated to organic farming and high quality wine and olive oil production, the client wanted the new facility to reflect his commitment to sustainable values. We designed the building to take advantage of the complementary seasons of grapes and olives. The large porch covers the crush pad and unites the wings of the building, tangibly expressing the combined facilities – one side is for wine and the other is for olive oil.

The structure is exposed throughout, featuring recycled beams and trusses from an old bridge. The gunned earth walls (PISE) were built using soil from the cave excavation that was mixed with cement and sprayed against forms. The thermal mass of the thick walls keeps the interior spaces cool during hot summer days and eliminates the need for air conditioning. The interior spaces range from the production-oriented ground floor areas and cave cellar to the workroom, conference room and private office upstairs.
