Long Meadow Ranch Rutherford Estate / info >

TGH designed the Long Meadow Ranch, Rutherford Winery to be reflective of LMR’s mission to be socially responsible using diversified, sustainable, and organic farming methods.

The site for the production and hospitality facilities is located at the north end of Rutherford Gardens along Highway 29. The winery program called for a facility that would have a capacity of 100,000 gallons and could handle all varietals. The design is for a facility that will be energy self-sufficient, use no groundwater, no hazardous chemicals, and not have runoff.

The 13,900 square feet of enclosed area is organized into three separate long barns that frame views through the buildings to the vineyards beyond. The barns house a fermentation space, lab, and two long barrel chais. The building utilizes innovative design and process engineering to set a new standard for winery design. Passive systems include reducing energy loads by using vine walls to shade insulated energy mass walls and ample shaded outdoor workspaces for winemaking. Active systems include solar hot water and photovoltaic panels to supply the building’s energy needs. Rainwater harvesting and reuse will supply all the water for the winery’s needs.
