This law practice, specializing in patent law in the high-tech industry, had the opportunity to lease the 28th floor in San Francisco’s Three Embarcadero Center, also previously occupied by a law firm.

The existing space was cramped with narrow corridors and did not reflect Skjerven Morrill’s focus on openness and cooperation. The challenge was to preserve as many of the functions of the original office buildout, while redesigning the entrance to create a sense of arrival, openness, and awareness of the bay views.

Turnbull Griffin Haesloop opened up a generous space across the width of the floor plate with glass conference rooms at either end. The existing elevator lobby opened into the middle of the floor plate so we inserted a series of moveable illuminated translucent panels to bring a sense of light to the core. The floor to floor structure is compressed so we opted to arc the ceiling as high as possible in-between the beams. TGH worked in collaboration with Bottom Duvivier and the reception desk was designed by Eric Pfeiffer.
